The Edwardian main building, which was actually finished in 1911 and features a sweeping staircase, stained-glass windows, and marble mosaic flooring, is a truly inspiring place to study. Most of your studies will take place in the Academy’s central building and the next-door Regency terrace designed by John Nash in the 1820s.

The Duke’s Hall: flagship 350-seat concert venue

The David Josefowitz Recital Hall: built in 2001 and has 120 seats

The Susie Sainsbury Theatre: a newly built 309-seat venue with a large stage and orchestra pit that can accommodate a wide range of large-scale performances, including fully-staged operas

Angela Burgess Recital Hall: a striking, 100-seat rooftop space that features astounding acoustics, great for both recording and performing

The Susie Sainsbury Theatre and Angela Burgess Recital Hall have won numerous awards for their innovative architecture since their opening in 2018 and have hosted many external performances. 

Other facilities that students can benefit from include: a well-equipped library; an excellent canteen serving healthy and affordable meals; The Academy Museum which hosts regular research events and includes on-site instrument workshops; use of nearby St Mark’s Church; dedicated professional recording services; outstanding teaching and practice studios and rehearsal and lecture rooms; further practice studios in a custom-built suite at Cross Keys Close, located just a short walk away from the academy. 

Recording Facilities: As part of the academy’s major theatre construction project, the Academy's recording facilities have been completely renovated. Student recordings have been greatly increased, in addition to filming many orchestral and other public events (recordings are available on the academy’s YouTube channel). 

During the academic year, the David Josefowitz Recital Hall, Angela Burgess Recital Hall, and Duke's Hall are available for self-directed 'unattended' student recordings using high-quality built-in cameras and microphones (when not in use for teaching or public events). Students are given a tablet with a simple one-button-press app to use during the video recording process. Immediately after recording, files can be accessed online.

Many audio recording sessions are available at St Mark's, which is a short walk from the main Academy building, for students who want to work with an engineer. These sessions are offered to students at no cost and are scheduled on a monthly basis. On request, more complex projects may be considered, but fees may apply.

Students Halls and Flats:

Intercollegiate Halls: University of London (UoL) halls of residence, situated across London. Most of the academy’s allocated places are in Lillian Penson Hall, next to Paddington Station with rental prices including catering. 

International Students House (ISH): This offers affordable student halls in London for students from various universities and institutions, and it has dormitory, triple, twin, and single bedrooms available. 

Accommodation for Returning Academy Students: Eleanor Rosa House is a vibrant and modern student accommodation in London. The accommodation is located in Stratford, just minutes from a number of transport links that provide easy access to central London.

With floor to ceiling windows and panoramic views of the city, the building houses more than 500 excellent student rooms. Choose from self-catering studios and en-suite rooms, all of which feature vibrant communal areas such as the rooftop terrace and games room.

Lodgings, Homestays, and House Shares: In lodgings and homestays, you rent a room or a part of a house from the owner, who also lives there. The majority of communal spaces are shared. These accommodations are frequently available on a short-term basis, allowing you greater flexibility. Bills and utilities are usually included in the price, which makes budgeting a breeze. 

Houseshares are similar to lodgings and homestays, but you'll be sharing a room with a group of people rather than the homeowner. Bills are occasionally included in the price, but they may need to be paid separately. Check to see if items like council tax (a local tax) and television license are included. You will be exempt from paying council tax if everyone in your houseshare is a student, and the Academy will provide you with an exemption letter.
